I just now learned about "scouting", God damn!

Posted by ZoroarkX - October 27th, 2017

Ok, so I've been posting art to Newgrouns for quite a while and I always thought It would appear on the "Brand Spankin' New Art" section. I assumed It only didnt show up for me because I made it and everyone else would find it there. Turns out none of my art gets nearly as far as I think. Through showing Newgrounds to a friend  I found out all this junk about scouting and how none of my work reaches the Portal till I'm scouted by someone who has been scouted. It would of been fine to know about this before but only just finding this out, now I'm all annoyed.

I'm not asking to be scouted, but if you can help... Idk give me a chance, I'll leave it up to you (not that I have a choice really XD). I'm just mad right now because this stuff only just got to me and I've been thinking everyone can see my work like I see theirs. I guess I have to prove myself... By the way heres my friends new account (I'm sure she's never gonna update it but why not)...   https://boredzozo.newgrounds.com

Yeah, it took me a bit to find out about the scouting system. Read the rules of scouting, and I can tell you from experience that scouting someone new can be really nerve racking for the scouter (or that's just me). Anyway, remember to always try your best when posting art!

Yeah, the scouting aspect can be viewed as a proving grounds for the artist. It also helps to deter people from making alt accounts and flooding the Art Portal with garbage for whatever petty reason might to mind. The ones who scout also have to be careful, because if the people they scout start breaking rules or their art is not of a quality that genuinely reflects the creator's effort and desire to improve and express him/herself, then the scouter can lose his status, along with the person he scouted.

One way to be seen, despite being unscouted, is to participate in contests or holidays. The rules will typically request that you tag your art (like "Halloween2017" for example) and, if nothing else, the judges will see it. If one or more of them like what they see, you might go from being unscouted to frontpaged (along with being scouted, of course).

Your drawings remind me of when I would try to draw all the pictures I saw in my issues of Nintendo Power an within game instruction manuals back when I was your age.

I suppose scouting is a risky business. I guess not getting scouted (most of the time) is due to people not looking for someone to scout. Might be wrong but I cant tell till I'm there. Looks like I've got some proving to do.

"I guess not getting scouted (most of the time) is due to people not looking for someone to scout..."

That might be it for some, but a handful really love being "the guy" who introduces new talent to the portal. They want to be the ones who discovered these diamonds in the rough and encouraged them to shine. Then, you got those like LuckyLightTitan, who provided a detailed blog post to show his willingness to scout just because he really likes to help out other NG members: https://theoverghoul.newgrounds.com/news/post/970722

Thanks a bunch for showing me this guy. I think I have a chance. Hopefully I'm fit for the big league :)
